This year marks the birth centenary of the Showman of Indian cinema, Raj Kapoor. In honour of this momentous occasion, Lyca Gold is dedicating an entire week from 9th December to 15th December, to celebrate one of the most influential actors and filmmakers in the history of Indian cinema.
Born on 14 December, 1924, Raj Kapoor was the eldest son of legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor. A pioneer of Indian cinema, he not only acted in but also directed and produced some of Bollywood’s most iconic films like ‘Awaara’ and ‘Mera Naam Joker’, leaving a lasting mark on the industry. Debuting at age 10 in the 1935 film ‘Inquilab’, he later went on to become one of India’s youngest directors with the film ‘Aag’ (1948). He was also one of the first Indian filmmakers to gain global recognition with his films being immensely popular in countries like the Soviet Union, where ‘Awaara’ and ‘Shree 420’ were adored.
Raj Kapoor’s birth centenary is a chance to remember his timeless impact and also a celebration of the art and soul he brought to cinema. Through this week-long tribute, Lyca Gold invites fans to rediscover the magic that defined his work.
