‘Jigra’ director Vasan Bala blames himself for film’s failure at box office

Director Vasan Bala has taken full responsibility for the underperformance of ‘Jigra’ at the box office. In a recent interview with Fever FM, he was asked to share his thoughts on the film being Alia Bhatt’s weakest box-office opener to date.

Bala acknowledged the disappointment, saying, “It is my responsibility to deliver at the box office because we are in the business of filmmaking. Something has happened where people stayed away; something didn’t connect with them enough to come to the theatre.”

Bala’s comments reflect his recognition that the film did not resonate as expected. He also noted that filmmakers must ensure actors’ time is used effectively to justify their commitment to projects.

Amid ongoing discussions about Jigra’s failure, Bala deactivated his X (formerly Twitter) account after being criticised online, with some users labelling him ‘arrogant’ for defending the film rather than fully accepting its failure.
